“Come! Bring Healing, Bring Peace” – The Annual Advent Vespers
On Sunday, December 4, 2016, the seminary and wider community marked the season with the annual Advent Vespers. Under the theme “Come! Bring Healing, Bring Peace,” the Service of Evening Prayer provided a time for prayer, reflection, and silence – things that are a gift from God in our fevered world. The liturgy featured beautiful candle light and music for choir and assembly. Vespers was followed by a reception in Benbow Hall.
Led by the Seminary Choir under the direction of Dr. Michael Krentz, LTSP Director of Music Ministries and Seminary Cantor, the choir sang pieces by William Billings, Heinrich Schuetz, and Dale Knobloch. Other music for choir and assembly included songs by Thomas Pavlechko, Francisco Feliciano, Ray Makeever, Pablo Sosa, John Bell, Michael Praetorius, and a fugue on the Magnificat by J. S. Bach. Reporter/writer Arlene Edmonds shared the experience with readers of The Philadelphia Tribune.
