Gatherings
Two Gathering times are planned, at 1:00 and 2:15. If you wish to join a Gathering, each will be available for both Gatherings times.
Women's Stories Are Everyone's Stories!
How do we share the women's witness stories from the Bible, when so many of them are thought of as less than vital lessons in the life of congregations? How do we share our own stories of witness in a world where our stories are often ignored. Dr. Karyn L. Wiseman, LTSP Assistant Professor of Homiletics and Director of United Methodist Studies, presents a workshop on preaching, teaching or sharing the stories that are essential for women and men to hear in the church. This interactive and participatory gathering will be a sharing time to ignite your spirit and inspire you to share your unique story of life and faith.
"Katie, Anna, and me..."
This skit, written by Jean E. Godsall-Myers,is intended to encourage the audience to consider the history, faith, and personalities of three women who get to know each other across the span of the centuries. Come meet the three actresses as we all enjoy some humor and some insight into the lives of some women in that Cloud...
"The Shape of Faith: Clay as Spiritual Medium"
Using clay technique in service of spiritual and biblical reflection. The Rev. David Christensen, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Telford, holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota in Duluth in Art with concentration in ceramics. He works primarily in hand-built forms and ceramic tiles.
What Should I Wear?
Kimberly Boice, Museum Educator at the historic Peter Wentz Farmstead, will offer a hands-on program highlighting women’s clothing of the third quarter of the 18th century. This will include a brief explanation of the clothing trade in and around Philadelphia during that time as well as the process of making fabric from home-grown sources. Also take the opportunity to try-on reproductions of garments from the era, so be sure to bring your camera.
“Finding Home”
The Rev. Violet Little will share her witness in creating The Welcome Church, a church without walls that serves persons in Center City Philadelphia. The Welcome Church formed after Pastor Little opened a respite center at the nearby Lutheran Church of the Holy Communion where people experiencing homelessness could come in out of the cold for tea and conversation without fear of being hassled or forced to move on. As visitors to this Welcome Center asked for Bible study, communion and hospital visits, a congregation emerged.
How did I get here?
Seminary students give witness to their faith journeys that led them to seminary and their passion for various ministries. This gathering will be lead by Pastor Leah Shade, who is working on her PhD in Homiletics and Ecological Theology and is the pastor of United in Christ Lutheran Church in West Milton, PA.
All Things Muhlenberg
Explore the Muhlenberg artifacts found in the Lutheran Archives Center at Philadelphia! Exploration will include Muhlenberg Journals and, from the PBS program History Detectives, the story of the Peter Muhlenberg robe, part of the seminary’s historical collection. The Journals and the robe will be on display!
Spiritual Knitting
Knitting is not only a popular pastime, but can also be spiritual practice! Knitting touches our minds, bodies, and spirits, and helps people reduce stress, overcome loss, form friendships, and connect with a community. Most important, knitting can become prayer. Bring in your knitting projects or if new to knitting, bring some needles and yarn and we will help you begin. Kathie Afflerbach, LTSP Coordinator for Non-Credit Education, will lead this gathering.
