About the Living Stories workshop
Long passages of scripture often lose the attention of the congregation. In this workshop we will work at bringing the text to life by presenting scripture creatively. We’ll begin with a comparison of two approaches to one text, John 9:1-41. Then we will break into small groups to work on passages for the upcoming Lectionary season, with texts available from both the Revised Common Lectionary and the Narrative Lectionary. If you are a clergyperson or a worship team member or a layperson who wants to get involved in renewing worship, this workshop will give you tools to bring the stories of our faith to new life in your particular worship context.
About the Presenter
The Rev. Martha K. Spong served United Church of Christ congregations of diverse size and situation as both a settled and intentional interim pastor before becoming the Director of RevGalBlogPals, an ecumenical ministry providing support and community for clergywomen. In all parish settings, she enjoyed working with lay people to create presentations of scripture that opened the Word through drama and poetry. She blogs at “Reflectionary,” where you can find some of her creative scripture adaptations, and she is a contributor to the Abingdon Creative Preaching Annuals for 2014, 2015, and 2016 (forthcoming).
