Are you part of a Muhlenberg Congregation?
Henry Melchior Muhlenberg was a patriarch and pillar of Lutheranism in eighteenth-century North America. Does your congregation have a legacy that includes Muhlenberg's ministry which gathered people to worship, established congregations, and developed a church structure by which pastors were called, churches organized, and ministry done? As a pastor or member of a "Muhlenberg Congregation," join us in celebrating the legacy of Henry Melchior Muhlenberg.
The year 2011 marks the 300th anniversary of Muhlenberg’s birth. The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia and Muhlenberg College are marking this occasion with a yearlong series of special events. We hope that the year will serve as a lens not only to reflect on the heritage of Muhlenberg’s leadership and legacy within the church, but also to reinterpret it for the larger community and interested audiences.
The interest is high, and while there are many organizations actively planning for the year, we need the involvement and support of Muhlenberg’s congregations. Outside funding and other agencies will help us tell the story of Muhlenberg the patriot. We need you to help us tell the story of Muhlenberg the pastor. Without your voice and involvement, the true legacy of Henry Melchior Muhlenberg will be incomplete.
We invite you to be a part of this 300th anniversary year. Please help us - tell us your congregaton's story by completing our online questionnaire about Muhlenberg congregations. We look forward to exploring the history, heritage, and enduring influence of Henry Melchior Muhlenberg in congregations like yours, located from New England to Georgia.
