Muhlenberg Liturgy Resource (Kirchenagende)
The Kirchenagende, known as the "Muhlenberg Liturgy" or "The Church Agenda of 1748," was the first official liturgy adopted by Lutherans in North America. Henry Melchior Muhlenberg chaired the committee that prepared the liturgy. The Kirchenagende was the only authorized service among Lutherans in America at the time of the Revolutionary War.
This copy is from Augustus Lutheran Church, Trappe, PA, where Muhlenberg served as pastor. Known as "Old Augustus," the original church still stands and remains in use by the congregation.
Download a copy of Augustus Church's version of Kirchenagende used September 12, 1993, to mark the 275th anniversary of the building of Old Augustus Church.
