Certificate in Christian Ministry
The Certificat Program in Christian Ministry equips clergy and lay leaders for faithful and effective ministry in the parish by enhancing their skills in Bible study, church doctrine, church history, preaching, and worship. The Certificate Program in Christian Ministry is a program of the Urban Theological Institute (UTI) of The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (LTSP). UTI, founded in 1980, has prepared pastors, educators, and outreach ministers from various denominations, and continues to provide theological education that is relevant and up-building for the African American community.
The program consists of eight seminars over two academic years: Historical Books, The Prophets, The Gospels, The Epistles, Beliefs of the Church, Historical Church Leaders, Famous Preachers’ Sermon Style, and Music and Worship. Each seminar meets three hours on Saturday mornings during the fall and spring semesters. The fee per seminar is $200 plus the cost of textbooks. Participants who complete all eight courses receive the Certificate in Christian Ministry. Students may enter the program in either the fall or spring semester.
