Degree Program: Master of Arts in Public Leadership (MAPL)
The MASTER OF ARTS in PUBLIC LEADERSHIP (MAPL) at The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (LTSP) trains those committed to making a difference in the world through public leadership. MAPL’s four core courses are drawn on the classic disciplines of theology, bible, history, and ethics, but are recast for the sake of leadership in the public realm. Students develop a professional emphasis with either the School of Social Work or the Fox School of Business at Temple University. Along with the coursework — taught by some of the most creative, passionate, and involved scholars in Philadelphia — Public Leadership immerses the student in hands-on experience with people and institutions nearest to the ground.
Social ministry organizations, social service agencies, and advocacy organizations are just a few of the many types of fieldwork sites available in the metropolitan Philadelphia area. The integration of theological and professional disciplines and the immersion in social context provides multi-layered learning, exposure to a wide range of leaders, and cutting-edge training for social ministry leadership, advocacy, and entrepreneurial ministry anywhere theology intersects with business or social work.
LTSP offers day, night, Saturday, intensive, and online courses, making excellent theological education accessible to a wide range of students. Admission is on a rolling basis. Need and merit based financial aid is available.
