The Rev. Dr. Karyn L. Wiseman joined the faculty of The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (LTSP) as Associate Professor of Homiletics.
Prof. Wiseman came to LTSP from Hood Theological Seminary, Salisbury, NC, where she held the position of Associate Professor of Ministerial Studies, and also directed Hood's Supervised MInistry program and was coordinator of United Methodist Studies. She is a member of the American Academy of Religion, Academy of Homiletics, Society of Biblical Literature and Association of Theological Field Educators.
Prof. Wiseman was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in Liturgical Studies with concentration in Preaching and Worship, with additional specializations/extensive workin Postmodern/Emergent Worship, Liturgy, and Worship Space and Design, from Drew University in 2006, receiving the Dean's Honor Award as the outstanding student of the class. Her dissertation topic was "Grace Space: The Creation of Worship Space for the Postmodern/Emerging Church."
She also holds a Master of Philosophy from Drew (2005), Master of Divinity (with honors) from St. Paul School of Theology, Kansas CIty, MO (1996) and Bachelor of Arts in History from Angelo State University, San Angelo, TX (1985).
Elder/Full Member of the Kansas East Conference of the United Methodist Church, 1996, Prof. Wiseman served local churches in Kansas and New Jersey as senior pastor for 15 years.

I am a Tweener – I was born in 1962 so I am not a true Baby Boomer (according to some lists) and I am on the edge of the Baby Buster (Generation X) years. I have some lifestyle similarities with both groups but definitely claim the Gen X (more Buster than Boomerang) label more than the Boomers.

When I was growing up – I learned a passage from Micah from my grandfather. The passage has been important to me ever since then. This passage is the core of my faith. I recite it often. I used it as the basis of my final Credo Paper for my Master of Divinity degree at Saint Paul School of Theology.

I am traveling with my family this week to the funeral of my son's great grandmother, Granny P. She was 93 when she passed away and had been in an assisted living facility for some years due to Alzheimer's Disease. The last few times we visited she did not really respond to us, but my son was convinced she smiled at him.

I grew up in Texas, which is an extremely oral culture. We tell stories. We tell little stories about the people who used to live in the house on the corner or the football game when we won the state championship.

The image to the right is of a hymnal from a United Methodist Church destroyed in a tornado on February 29, 2012 in Harveyville, Kansas. The hymnal survived. It was found in the midst of absolute ruin. It was beaten and battered – but it survived.

Today I awoke like everyone else to hear about another school shooting. This one was in Chardon, Ohio where two students died and three others were injured by a classmate who opened fire in the school cafeteria. It has been an all too common thread in our society – mass shootings at school, in church, at home, and in the workplace.

I went to get my eyes checked this week and had to list my age, allergies, and current prescriptions on the patient information page. (Five meds I take daily.) I had to list my allergies to medications. (I had a couple. Namely, penicillin.) And I had to do a glaucoma and cataracts test. (Good for now.)

Going to the
beach in the winter is not something I had ever thought much about. In the best of circumstances I am not really
a beach person. I do not like the feel
of sand in my clothes or between my toes. I do not drink tropical drinks with little umbrellas in them. I am not a super strong swimmer and the rough
surf beats my knees up. And I do not
like to be in the sun too much.

Yesterday we saw
a great new movie about Margaret Thatcher, called The Iron Lady. Meryl Streep is a tour de force in the role. The
film is about England under the leadership of the first and only female Prime
Minister in their long history. She is depicted in an interesting contrast to
her public persona. In real life she was thought to be defiant, demanding, and
difficult. The movie shows other sides to this powerful woman.
