Spring Convocation 2017 – Remembrance and Promise: Report, Videos & Photos

Spring Convocation 2017

LTSP welcomed alumni and friends to the last Spring Convocation of the Philadelphia seminary on Monday and Tuesday, March 27 and 28, 2017, for “Remembrance and Promise,” both a celebration of The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia and a look toward the promise of United Lutheran Seminary.

Monday’s activities included a special Alumni Choir, rehearsing to sing a setting of Psalm 23 by the late seminary professor and choir director the Rev. Dr. Robert Bornemann. Early attendees enjoyed a meal and fellowship in Lull Lounge, and then attended worship in the Shaeffer-Ashmead Chapel.

Tuesday worship included the Alumni Choir leading the assembly in singing the setting of Psalm 23 by Robert Bornemann, with the Rev. Gordon Lathrop, Professor of Liturgy Emeritus at LTSP, preaching and presiding.

Following the afternoon session, faculty, alumni, and friends gathered for conversation in the Krauth Memorial Library rotunda and Breidegam Connector. Attendees from anniversary classes gathered for photos in The Brossman Center’s lobby, with the library in the background.

Also in the Alumni photos slide show, Distinguished Alumna the Rev. Dr. Sarah Heinrich standing with the Star Quilt she created to honor LTSP Professor the Rev. Dr. Timothy Lull. The quilt hangs in Lull Lounge.

Tuesday evening’s Banquet included remarks by LTSP President the Rev. Dr. David Lose and the Alumni Association recognizing the 2017 Distinguished Alumni honorees: The Rev. Dr. Sarah S Heinrich (MDiv ’79), The Rev. Christopher P. Nelson (MDiv ’81), and The Rev. Elton P. Richards (MDiv ’59).

Alumni also recognized alumnus the Rev. Dr. Nelson Rivera (MDIV ’87, STM ’98), LTSP Associate Professor of Systematic Theology and Hispanic Ministry and Director of the Latino Concentration, for his service to LTSP. Dr. Rivera is joining the faculty of Moravian Seminary in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
