The Annual Advent Vespers – Sunday, December 6

Advent Vespers 2015

The Annual Advent Vespers

Sunday, December 6, 2015
4:30 pm Vespers | Reception to Follow (with RSVP – deadline was December 2)

Schaeffer-Ashmead Chapel on the LTSP Campus
7301 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia 19119

Advent Vespers is “coming home” this year to our own Schaeffer-Ashmead Chapel! We will enter beneath the chapel’s reconstructed bell tower, and hear the lovely chapel bell calling us to prayer and tolling during the “Our Father.”

Advent Vespers (Evening Prayer) will be led by our faithful Seminary Choir under the leadership of Dr. Michael Krentz, Director of Music Ministries/Seminary Cantor. At the center of Evening Prayer is the singing of the Gospel Canticle, the Song of Mary, the Magnificat. This year, the choir will sing this familiar text in a setting by the 19th century English composer Thomas Attwood Walmisley.

Other music will include Carl Schalk’s haunting arrangement of “As the Dark Awaits the Dawn,” and Philip Dietterich’s “Carol of the Advent.” Of course, there will also be many hymns and songs for the assembly to sing, and the loveliness of candle light.

Following the Vespers liturgy, everyone is invited to The Brossman Center for fellowship and a festive reception featuring good food and musical entertainment by “The Groove Grace Group.” The group, featuring Jon Pahl, alto and tenor saxes; Richard Mandel, piano; Ed Dennis, drums; John D’Urso, bass – and perhaps some special guests – will be playing Advent and Holiday (Christmas) music, with a swing feel.

Please RSVP for the (free) reception by December 2 using this online form:
