(this article has been updated 6/3/2015 with additional arrangements information)
The Rev. G. Daniel Jones, DMin, DD, long time Chair and Chair Emeritus of The Urban Theological Institute (UTI) of The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia’s Committee of Advisors (UTICA) died on Wednesday, May 27, 2015. Dr. Jones was Pastor Emeritus of Grace Baptist Church of Germantown, where he served for over 30 years, and as interim pastor at Zion Baptist Church.
When asked about his long relationship with the seminary and UTI in a 2010 interview, Dr. Jones noted that he saw himself as a long time supporting neighboring pastor of UTI and the seminary, appreciative of the resources such as the Krauth Memorial Library which are available to the community, and as an adjunct on the faculty, teaching Christian education, which he called “a rewarding experience.” He served as co-chair of UTI’s 30th anniversary celebration in 2010, and received an honorary Doctor of Divinity from LTSP in 2011. Dr. Jones had been similarly honored by his alma mater, Virginia Union University, in 2006.
His wife, Mrs. Geraldine Saunders Jones, died on October 27, 2014.
Please keep Dr. Jones’ family (including son Bryant and daughter-in-law Deon, grandson Bryant, Jr, and sisters his sisters Gwendolyn and Elaine), along with the church families of Grace Baptist Church of Germantown and Zion Baptist Church in your prayers.
