They don’t often televise rocket launches anymore. I suppose they are too commonplace. But I am just old enough to remember the last couple of launches of the Apollo space program that sent astronauts to the moon and the excitement generated as the voice from Mission Control counted down, “10, 9, 8, 7… 3, 2, 1, Ignition, Blast off!”

United Lutheran Seminary (ULS) President-elect Theresa Latini recently visited the LTSP campus to meet with students, staff, and faculty. After being introduced and providing background information about herself, Dr. Latini fielded questions from the community. Inquiries ranged from “Do you play tabletop games and what is your experience with Settlers of Catan?” to “How welcoming and open are you, and are you a safe person for us?”

Members of the seminary community share their remembrances of The Rt. Rev. Dr. Frederick Houk Borsch, professor, colleague, and friend to many in the community. Dr. Borsch, known to many as simply “Fred,” died early on April 11, 2017, from complications of myelodysplastic syndrome, a form of leukemia. He was 81 years old. Read their remembrances and watch videos and a slide show from his time at LTSP.

Believing that being both in the classroom and the pulpit is necessary for a seminary professor, the Reverend Wayne E. Croft Sr., DMin, PhD, the Jeremiah A. Wright, Sr. Associate Professor of Homiletics and Liturgics in African American Studies at LTSP also serves as Senior Pastor of the St. Paul’s Baptist Church in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Dr. Croft talks about his work as professor and pastor, and his work in the community. Dr. Croft is being recognized this summer by the American Baptist Churches with the Edwin T. Dahlberg Peace and Justice Award for outstanding work for peace and justice.

LTSP alumna the Rev. Nicole Diroff’s faith journey has led her to the Interfaith Center of Greater Philadelphia, where she serves as Associate Executive. Pr Diroff talks about her work, and about the Interfaith Center’s Inter-Seminary Initiative. The initiative brought Interfaith Youth Core founder Eboo Patel to the LTSP campus for conversation, and seminarians share their reflections on the event.
